Shoppers Public Meeting Spring 2014

On March 19th, there was a community meeting held to inform the public about the Shoppers Drug Mart Development at the corner of King Street West and Dundurn Street. Shoppers Drug Mart had appealed to the Ontario Municipal Board over zoning issues the City had with their development application. For the past year Councillor Brian McHattie has been updating the Strathcona Community Council regularly on this issue. Discussion has been challenging as the proposed plans have nor conformed to the Strathcona Secondary Plan. Now, with the involvement of the OMB, Councillor McHattie arranged the community meeting for the property owners to present their plan to the public. The meeting was attended by roughly 20 concerned neighbours/business owners, 3 members of our SCC Executive, as well as Councillor McHattie and Edward Johns of the City of Hamilton Planning Department. Shoppers Drug Mart had the project consultant Matt Johnston from IBI Group Inc. present the site development plans, and the reasons that Shoppers appealed the application to the OMB. Shoppers had a manager of urban design present, but he tried to remain an observer at the meeting. *Tim Horton’s as a tenant on the property did not have a representative present.
