Huge Egg-Hunt Turnout!

Huge Egg-Hunt Turnout!

On March 30th, the Strathcona Community Council hosted our first ever free chocolate Easter egg hunt in Victoria Park.   There were two hosted sites, one in Victoria Park, which had an approximate turn out of 300 children and the second site was the playground at the corner of Queen/Oxford and York, which had about 85 children.  The folks at Bel Canto Strings also came out and had a showcase.   Based on how many came out for the event, the council will examine expanding the event for next spring, so stay tuned. We would like to extend a large thank you to all of the volunteers who turned out to make this event a success. Check out some of the...

The Staircase – The 6-Minute Memoir

13 Hamilton writers on the moment that changed everything Sometimes your whole life can change in a single moment. Thirteen Hamilton writers will share their personal stories about moments of epiphany when they take to the stage of the Staircase Theatre on Dundurn Street North on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20 at 8 p.m. as part of The 6-Minute Memoir show. Participating writers include Miranda Hill, author of Sleeping Funny; comedian and playwright Colette Kendall; Hamilton Spectator columnist Jeff Mahoney; Eva Kay, winner of the Hamilton Public Library’s Power of the Pen contest, Chris Farias, creative director of Kitestring, Amanda Leduc, author of The Miracles of Ordinary Men, among others. Calling all Easter bunnies!

Calling all Easter bunnies!

Do you have a young one at home that can’t get enough of Easter egg hunts? Well, then you are in luck! Thanks to a generous donation by Hamilton philanthropist Chris Ecklund (in association with @cityofwaterfall) the Strathcona Community Council will be conducting it’s first ever free chocolate Easter egg hunt in Victoria Park this Saturday, March 30th at 2 pm. The first site is Victoria Park (meeting at the tennis courts) and the second site is the playground of Victoria Park Management Homes at the corner of Queen/Oxford and York.  Paper bags will be provided for the children to gather up their goodies in, but if you have a festive basket at home that you would like to use instead then by all means bring it along.  Each hunt site will be divided into two separate areas, one for toddlers and one for older children so as to give the wee ones a fair shot at some loot. We are looking for volunteers to assist with the following activities: giving the search areas a bit of a cleaning up before the hunt hiding the eggs in the two different areas handing out bags to the children for collecting the eggs monitoring the areas before and during the hunt gathering up any leftover eggs after it’s over. If you are interested please email me ASAP so we can organize our volunteers accordingly.  We are so excited about the opportunity Chris has provided the community with and would love to see it be a smashing success.  The more volunteers we have the smoother the event will run so please consider joining us on...
