Strathcona Community Food Drive

Volunteers needed – Strathcona Community Food Drive. The statistics are a sad reflection of the times. The use of our local food banks has increased 26% over last year. The Strathcona neighbourhood is taking action. In October, there will be a door to door campaign asking for donations. If everyone could give just one can, think of the difference it would make! We need volunteers to canvas the community. Can you give up a couple of hours on a Saturday morning? Where: Victoria Park When: Saturday October 24 Time: 9:00a.m. For more information, contact Michelle Sykes 289-396-2573 or Kathy Wolsey 905-527-0432 or...

Straight from the Garden

Straight from the Garden – September 27th 2009 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm From Molly MacDonald, Historic Garden Demonstrator, Dundurn National Historic Site: September is harvest season, and time for our fourth annual fall fair event here at Dundurn Castle. I’ve attached a poster for the event, which will take place on Sunday September 27th from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. It should be a great day. Russ Ohrt will be speaking about Backyard Harvest. Sapphire Singh will be facilitating a workshop on how to start a community garden. Simon Taylor and I will be inviting visitors to participate in the construction and planting of hot beds and cold frames for season extension. As with last year, there will also be a community horticultural exhibition, to which any backyard gardeners are encouraged to bring their produce. So we’d love to see Strathcona represented there! Come to the fair! Dundurn Castle invites you and your family to join us in celebrating Hamilton’s agricultural communities, past and present. Activities include a farmers’ market, an agricultural exhibition, garden demonstrations and workshops, garden tours, cooking workshops, live music, and activities for the children. Bring your backyard produce for the community horticultural exhibition! Free admission to outdoor activities. A small fee will be charged for cooking workshops. Regular admission rates apply to the museum. For more information contact: 610 York Boulevard, Hamilton, Ontario L8R 3H1 • 905.546.2872 Visit our website...
