Wesley Urban Ministries Christmas Store at 210 Napier Street

Wesley Urban Ministries will once again be operating their annual Christmas Store out of the Housing Help Centre at 210 Napier Street.  Last year the program served almost 5,200 individuals and the need is only increasing. If you know anyone who could benefit from the program please note the following information: In order to qualify the person needs to be a resident of The City of Hamilton, provide proof of residence, and be below the low income cut-off for the 2010 income tax return. To register it is necessary to bring a piece of ID for each person in their family.  Registration cannot proceed without it.  Once the paperwork is complete an appointment will be booked to “shop” at the Christmas Store at a later date. Offsite registration is available from Monday, November 28th through to Friday, December 2nd at the old Beasley Community Centre at 27 Elgin Street from 10 am to 2.  Registration will commence at 210 Napier beginning Saturday, December 10th and continue until December 17th (see below for specific dates and times). Please note, even though registeration does not begin until December 10th at the Napier address, activity has already begun at the site and will continue until December 21st (the actual store will be open from Dec 8-21st). Pedestrian Mobility Master Plan PIC2

What: Pedestrian Mobility Master Plan PIC #2 Date: Thursday, September 8, 2011 Time: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. (open house format) & presentation at 6 pm Location: Central Library, Hamilton and Wentworth Rooms, 555 York Blvd, Hamilton   The purpose of this study is to undertake a comprehensive Pedestrian Mobility Master Plan for the City of Hamilton. This plan will establish a 20 year (2031) framework to improve the pedestrian environment and increase the opportunity for walking as a mode of transportation (active travel) and recreation that is efficient, comfortable, safe inclusive, accessible and improve health of communities and economic development.   The first round of PICs held earlier this year identified the opportunities and constraints to walking and mobility in the City. Strathcona Fall Food Drive

Join the Strathcona Community Council Executive and members of the Strathcona community as we once again collect food to help re-stock the shelves at local food banks.  Volunteers will be coming around to every home in the neighbourhood to gather non-perishable food items between the hours of 10:00 am and 12:00 pm.  If you are not going to be home between these hours please feel free to leave the items in a bag on your front steps or porch and make clear the bag is for the food drive.  If you would like to help out please meet at Victoria Park (in the Strathcona Avenue North parking lot) at 9:30 am.  For more information contact  strathconacommunitycouncil@gmail.com. 3rd Annual Screen on the Green

The Strathcona Community Council proudly presents our 3rd annual Screen on the Green, an outdoor movie and family extravaganza taking place in Victoria Park (near the swimming pool).  The fun begins at 6:00 pm with some good eats from local restaurant Rolly Rocket’s BBQ, and is followed by some wonderful family entertainment starting at 7:30.  The movie, ‘Despicable Me’, will start at dusk (approx. 8:00PM).  Please bring a lawnchair or blanket and a non-perishable food item to help kick off our annual fall food drive. In the event of rain the event will be re-located to Erskine Presbyterian Church, the corner of Morden and Pearl. Annual Steampunk Event–Local

The Hamilton Victorian & Steampunk Society’s special Summertime Soiree will be held Thursday, July 28, 2011, 6 PM-10 PM. 19th century romantic parlour music will be professionally performed, + there will be a presentation about the great 19th century inventor, Nicola Tesla.
