Strathcona Community Food Drive

The statistics are a sad reflection of the times. The use of our local food banks has increased 26% over last year. The Strathcona neighbourhood is taking action. In October, there will be a door to door campaign asking for donations. If everyone could give just one can, think of the difference it would make! We need volunteers to canvas the community. Can you give up a couple of hours on a Saturday morning? Where: Victoria Park When: Saturday October 24 Time: 9:00a.m. For more information, contact Michelle Sykes 289-396-2573 or Kathy Wolsey...

West Town Crime Stats for August 2009

Strathcona, The crime stats for the month of August, provided by Sergeant Jo-Ann Savoie, West Town Crime Manager are now posted at http://www.brianmchattie.ca/page2.php?id=46.  Scroll down to the heading “Crime Reports” and click on the West Town Crime Stats -August 2009 link. Notes from the Crime Manager: At the end of August, Division One activated the McMaster Welcome Week Operational Plan. Vice and Drugs, Emergency Response Unit, High Enforcement Action Team, Beat Officers, Core Bicycle Officers, Plain Cloths , and several Crime Managers and By-Law worked closely to set the tone for the school year. A total of 312 Provincial Offences Notices were issued. The MLE (Municipal Law Enforcement) Tracking system was a huge success and made a big difference compared to previous years. The new nuisance by-law (Urinating in a Public Place) at $260 was a shock to most students who were not aware of the hefty fine. Although noise continues to be a problem in Westdale, I have received several e-mails indicating this year appears to be “better” than previous years. The St George’s Church Memory Garden project continues! Look for the Wall of Support to be affixed to the church by the end of the month. If you have not reserved your plaque ensure you contact Joe as there are only a limited number of plates available! Graffiti update: KEENUR our prolific tagger who was arrested on 5 August still remains in custody. He has another bail hearing on September 22. Sgt.
